Health & Safety
At Hastings Deering we integrate our core responsibilities of Safety, Environment, Quality, Risk Management and Continuous Improvement into every part of our day to day operations. Our OneHD culture is fundamental to achieving our goals and developing an empowered work force. Our Visible OneHD Felt Leadership Program articulates the values we live by, No Harm, Integrity, Transparency and Care.
At Hastings Deering we have implemented five year Strategic Safety Plans that include initiatives to support the delivery of a No Harm workplace. Over the last three years, we have achieved a company-wide transformation of our safety performance with a >85% reduction of our Total Recordable Injury Frequency Rate (TRIFR). However, we will never be satisfied until No Harm is achieved and all of our people can return home safely, every day.
At Hastings Deering, we are progressively minimising our environmental impact at all operations. With a number of environmental targets already achieved, our focus is now on the reduction of C02 emissions, waste and water management. To assist our customers, Hastings Deering provides expert advice to optimise equipment maintenance approaches that can improve fuel burn, reduce emissions, reduce component wear and increase service intervals. Leveraging class leading technologies along with practical advice in fleet management, predictive maintenance, collision avoidance and equipment repower options can contribute to improved operational efficiency and lower emissions. Examples include the repowering of D11R dozers where reductions in carbon emissions of 40% are being achieved and the re-engineering of a fleet of underground hard rock loaders where an up to 42% diesel particulate emissions reduction has been achieved.
Hastings Deering’s quality, safety and environmental management systems are third party accredited to AS/NZS ISO 9001:2008, AS/NZS 4801:2001, and AS/NZS ISO 14001:2004 respectively. Additionally, our Central Queensland Operations have underground accreditations covering Electrical Equipment in Explosive Atmospheres and Diesel Engine Repair and Overhauls under AS/NZS 3800:2012 and AS/NZS 3584.3:2012 respectively.
Hastings Deering has adopted the Caterpillar Production System (CPS), a lean Six Sigma methodology that underpins continuous operational improvement, increased productivity and the relentless drive to eradicate waste. By embracing sustainable improvements, we can institutionalise the safest and least resource-intensive processes to deliver our services and solutions.
